I have two types of windows in my
house. One is a big picture window that while I’m
sitting I can see people passing by as they walk and in
their cars. I can see the birds enjoying the birdseed
and the neighbors’ children playing in the yard. I can
see quite a lot outside that window.
The other windows are smaller. When I
look out those windows while I’m sitting down, I mainly
see the trees and the sky and not much more unless a
bird flies by.
Now if I would only look out the
smaller window, I wouldn’t have much knowledge about
what is around me. When I look out the larger one, I can
see a lot going on.
Living in a small community sometimes
is like looking out the smaller windows. We forget that
there is a much bigger world out there. That is, until
we turn on the TV news and hear about the earthquake in
China, the cyclone in Myanmar and the tornadoes and
fires in our own country.
This can happen in our lives as well.
We all have times when our worries and troubles cause us
to look at the world through a very small window.
The small window is crowded with
ourselves, our struggles, our health problems, our
family problems etc… The window becomes so crowded that
we can’t see any one else; it’s even hard to see any one
around who can help or who even cares.
That’s when we need a big picture
window prospective! That’s exactly what we get when we
trust and rely upon our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who
gives us the Spirit of Truth and Peace, which reminds us
that we will never be alone. God puts brothers and
sisters in Christ in our lives to help us look through
the picture window and to help us focus on the grace and
mercy of Christ, rather than on the worries or problems.
One of the best ways I have found to
look through the big picture window of life is to read
God's Holy Word. So I want to encourage you this month
to read the following passages: Psalm 139, Matthew
6:25-34, John 14, Romans 8:28-39, Hebrews 13:1-8.
That’s one for each week of the month of June. Take
time to read them, they will help you look out the big
picture window. You will be amazed at what you’ll see!
