With the cooler evenings, I’ve been
enjoying the outside. As I looked at the trees, looking
for some fall colors I noticed how the sun affected the
colors of the leaves.
Those leaves that were in the direct
path of the sun and had the full light on them were a
bright green. But those that were out of the path of the
sun with no light on them were a real dark green.
Because of where some of the leaves
of the tree are, they never are in the direct path of
the sun light. It doesn’t seem to effect them much. They
still grow – they still do what all leaves do. But I
can’t help but think that those in the direct light are
getting more of what they need to be the healthiest
green leaves they can be.
I’ve even noticed that a leaf can be
light and dark all at the same time. Some may be all
bright green but have a speck of dark green in them.
Some may be the other way around; some are more evenly
divided.
The Bible speaks about the Light of
Christ shining in our lives and the difference it makes
to us and to those around us. (Read Matthew 5; John 3; 2
Corinthians 4; 1 John 1)
Makes me wonder where I am at on the
path of the Son Light. Where are you? Are we staying out
of the path of the Son Light enjoying the darkness,
hoping and praying the Light won’t get too close and
show who we really are? Do we skirt along the edges of
the Son Light, staying close enough for people to think
we are in the Light, yet we are still in the cloak of
dark green? Are we half in and half out, with specks of
each?
This month as we notice the color of
the leaves changing, notice too the shades – the lights
and the dark. Notice how the leaves are brightened by
being in the path of the sun light. Then think of
yourself. How are you brightened by being in the direct
path of the Son Light? Or are you?
I encourage each of us to move into the direct path
of the Light of Christ completely, so that we may
receive what we need to be the healthiest child of God
that we can be!
