RECIPES FROM MOM

By Lisa Cooper Laughlin
(taught by Helen Cooper Burns)

December ends another year,
Another Christmas is now here.
A time to enjoy your family and friends.
Hoping the holiday never ends.
Preparing for the holidays is lots of fun.
Cooking the favorites for everyone.
Turkey, ham, salads and homemade rolls.
Cakes and pies and candy in bowls.
Decorating makes everything look nice.
Eat a big dinner, maybe twice.
This year will be very special to me.
I am a grandma now, you see.
New babies to carry on traditions as I know.
Now let's us start cooking and watch them grow.

Grandma Cooper’s Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3 tsp milk
2 tsp vanilla
6 cups of flour

Cream together shortening, butter, and sugars. Blend in eggs. Add flour. Roll out dough. You can use cookie cutters for any season or shapes and lay out on cookie sheets. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 325 degrees for 5-7 minutes.
