RECIPES FROM MOM

By Lisa Cooper Laughlin
(taught by Helen Cooper Burns)

Growing up on a farm wasn't so bad.
It helped to have a great mom and dad.
My brother and sisters were fun to be with.
There were five of us and Marty Jo was the fifth.
She was the baby as she followed mom around.
Though you hardly ever heard her make a sound.
I guess she was learning from her each day.
She listened to everything mom had to say.
As an adult she's learned to cook and bake.
Now I'll share with you Marty Jo's Special cake.

Mom's Honey Bun Cake
Cake: Icing:
1 yellow cake mix 1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup of applesauce 2 tbsp milk
1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream

Mix together batter and pour half in a bundt pan or a 9x14 pan, lightly greased and floured. Add half the dry ingredients (2 tbs cinnamon and cup of brown sugar). Spoon in remaining batter, then pat on rest of dry ingredients. Use a knife to swirl the cake top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. While hot from the oven, mix icing ingredients and pour mixture over the cake.
